Photographer No.2- Mike Campau

have picked Mike Campau as one of my chosen photographers because of the way he edits his photographs to add patterns which shape around the models body. I also liked the way in which all of his photographer contain the same tome of colour even including the costume and the back drop.

The composition of Mike Campau first photograph is the model placed in the centre who had jumped in the air and has been captured in the middle of the motion. Large ribbon looking shapes have been edited on to the photograph which shape around the models body. This gives the photograph a sense of weightlessness and elegance. Lastly a purple tone is kept throughout the photograph which gives a warming to the photograph.

The composition of Mike Campau second photograph is again that the model is placed in the centre who has jumped in the air and has created a sharp shape with her arms and legs.Again the same editing technique is used in this photograph as the first. A range of greens have been used throughout the photograph which gives it a feel of nature.

The composition of Mike Campau third photograph is that a women looks to have jumped elegantly into the air which is creating a sophisticated motion which has been frozen in its essence. The same editing technique is used in this photograph as the others however this one appear to be much looser therefore adding to the sense of weightlessness within this photograph.

The composition of Mike Campau forth photograph is a women jumping in the air and a spiral shape has been shaped around her body during this motion. The spiral almost looks like a spring and could represent her jumping off the group like a spring would. A blue and green tone can be seen throughout the photograph such as with the costume, background and the editing.

Influence
I have been influenced by Mike Campau as i would now like to consider not only photographing object and that it would be fun and interesting to photograph the freezing motion of humans.I also would like to experiment with different  colour tones to see which benefits the photograph the most.

Summary
Overall i like Mike Campau photographs as i feel that the colour tones used in each photograph help portray the elegance or sharpness of the motion as well as the editing technique which shapes around the models body.

Shoot No.8 Work Diary

This was a practice shoot for my exam. I dropped a apple into a fish tank full of water and captures it as it hit the water. I used a black background as it created a good contrast between the still water and the water that has been hit by the apple.

In my first photograph, i captured the apple as it just hit the water. This meant that more splashed water could be seen in the top part of the composition. The black background helped the water to standout more as it created more of a contrast opposed to a white background. By sharpening the photograph, it also helped to define the waters outline and make it stand out more than it did before
In my second photograph, i captured the apple as it went under the water, The water appears to shape around the apple to which creates a wave looking shape. Again the black background helps a lot to make sure the water standout. By sharpening the photograph, it also helped to define the waters outline and make it stand out more than it did before.

If i was to continue with the shoot i would like to experiment with different fruits and vegetables to see which ones standout the most against the black background and the water. I would also like to try more than one object at a time to see if it make the photograph more colorful and interesting.

Shoot No.7 Work Diary

In this shoot i wanted to capture water being poured in to a glass. I had to stop the light from hitting the glass and the water otherwise the water would not have been clear.

This is my first photograph which i feel was one of my most successful from this shoot. This is due to it capturing the bubbles as the pouring water entered the glass. When editing this photograph i changed the sharpness to make it appear more define and also added a blue tone which links to the fact that it is water. I would have liked to added bubbles to the water to make it more dramatic and interesting as a photograph.

This is my second photograph which i feel was one of my least successful photographs from this shoot. This is due to the water not really showing any impact from the water which is being poured in. However i still sharpened the photograph, along with levels and curves to see whether i could make the small impacts more dramatic however this was unsuccessful.

If i was to continue with this shoot i would add some bubble to the glass of water to make it appear like there was more of a dramatic impact from the water which was being poured in. I would also like to experiment with changing the background colour so that the water appears the same colour.

Shoot No.6 Work Diary

In this lesson i did a shoot of someone flicking their hair side to side and up and down. I wanted to capture the hair in the middle of the motion. I used a brown background to match the tones of the models hair.

This first photograph, i feel was my most successful from this shoot as i like the way that the model was in the centre of the composition and the way in which her hair shaped around her face as it flicks into the air. I made the corners of this photograph a darker shade as i wanted the focus to be on the model therefore this creates a  faint oval around her. Natural colour can be seen throughout the photograph therefore it makes it seem un-posed and natural. Also due to all of the models hair being sharp and in focus, it almost looks as if the models hair has been frozen during a motion and that it naturally stand up like this.

This is my second photograph. In this photograph i wanted to capture the model flicking her hair from side to side apposed to up and down. In many photographs the models face could not be seen however this was one of my favorite. I liked the way in which the models hair has been captured on both sides of the composition therefore giving it a even balance.I again added the darkened edges to illuminate the model and make her the main focus of the photograph. It also shaped around the models hair creating a outline.

If i was to continue with the shoot i would like to experiment with other colour hairs to see which background complemented them the most. I would also like to try and capture the motion in the different stages to then edit into a grid.

Shoot No.5 Work Diary

In todays lesson i did a shoot using party poppers. I used a black background so that the streamers could standout in the photograph. I wanted to capture the party popper just as it was release however i found this very hard. Once i had found the correct shutter speed i was able to capture some photographs which i was pleased with.
In my first photograph i liked the way in which all of the different coloured streamers are spread out across the composition.I liked the fact that the hand can be seen in the corner of the composition.   I changed the levels, curves and contrast so that the different coloured streamers standout and look more vibrant.

In my second photograph i again liked the way in which the streamers spread across the composition. I also likes the fact the different colours seem to merge together as they spread out. I wanted to get the hand in the photograph as i wanted to make it obvious that it was a party popper rather than streamers just being thrown in the air.

If i was to continue with this shoot i would like to capture the facial expression of the person pulling the party popper as i feel it will add to photograph and show another freezing motion as well as the party popppers.

Shoot No.4 Work Diary

In this lesson i did a shoot with balloon. With the help of a friend the balloon were threw into the air and i would capture them as the was falling. I was aiming to get as many balloon in the composition as i could to ensure that the photographs did not look plain. I used a red background to avoid seeing the shadow of the balloon on the back drop.

In my first photograph i like the way in which the balloon were spread over the composition compared to some of my other photographs which has balloon all in one corner of the composition. I also like the combination of colours as i felt that they all contrasted each other making each balloon standout from one another.

In my second photograph i like the fact that some of the edges of the balloon were cut out of the composition as i felt that it established that they are moving therefore they will all be at different stages when the photograph is being taken. Also the fact that no shadow can be seen made this photograph one of my best as various of my other photograph has shadows from the balloon it.

If i was to continue with this shoot i would like to try and capture more balloon in the composition and try a different colour background to see if it changes the mood of the photograph such as black.

Shoot No.3 Work Diary

For this shoot i wanted to freeze the motion of someone doing football skills. I reduced the shutter speed to try and capture the ball in mid air or the model. It took a while to get the correct shutter speed as i did not want the ball or the model to be blurred in the photograph.

In my first photograph i was trying to capture the model doing kick-up. At first this was hard as the ball kept coming out blurred in the photograph however i found this was the best one. I like the composition of this photograph as i felt that if too much of the model was to be shown in this specific photograph, the attention would have been taken away from the motion which i was trying to capture.
In my second photograph i was able to capture the model in mid air well doing a football skill. Also the models legs look slightly blurred, this can be implied that they was moving fast. In this specific photograph i did not want to place the model in the center of the composition to show that the ball is going to go towards the empty space within the composition.

If i was to continue with this shoot i would like to do it in the studio to see if i could better outcome due to me setting up my own lighting. I would also like to try and take photograph during a football match so that they look more realistic.

Shoot No.2 Work Diary

In this lesson i did a shoot with bubbles to capture them when they was floating in the air. To create the black background, i lit up the subject(the bubbles) and stopped any like hitting the back drop.

In my first picture i like the composition of the bubbles as they are at the top of the frame which makes them look as if they are floating. I also like the way the light hit the bubbles to show the colours of the bubbles which add to the 3D element of this photograph.Lastly i achieved the black background which i wanted.
In my second photograph i like the close up of the bubbles as i felt that it allowed you to see the bubbles colours in detail and again it makes it look 3D. I like the way that that both of the bubbles are in line with each other and you can almost image a line of bubble after this getting smaller and smaller. Lastly i achieved the black background which i wanted.

If i was to continue with this shoot i would get a bubble machine so that i would have more bubbles with in the composition rather than having more background.

Shoot No.1 Work Diary

In this lesson i did a shoot using glow stick. I changed the shutter speed so that i could achieve the photographs that i wanted to.

In my first photograph i loved the colours that could be seen and also i like the composition of where the glow sticks were. The fact that all the colours looked like they merged together, allowed a single shape to be formed rather than individual glow sticks. I also like the way that the colour seems to fade as they get to the center of the photograph.
In my second photograph i want to create a rainbow of colours with the glow sticks and i feel that this photograph did it successfully. I liked the way the colours seem to fan out from the corner of the composition and also the colour get darker. The fact that i can see parts of the glow stick, this help separate the colours to create the rainbow that i wanted.

If i was to continue with this shoot i would like to move the glow sticks in different directions and also put the glow sticks on a model to them see the glow sticks move as the model does.

Photographer No.1: Shinichi Maruyama

Shinichi Maruyama

I have chosen this photographer as i liked the way in which is showed elements such as water in different way and making them appear to be pure and beautiful and can create something that has never been seen before. With her 'Nude' shoot i like the way that they are capturing the beauty and the motion that come with it.

This first photograph is from Shinichi Maruyama 'Water sculpture' shoot. By throwing the water in the air, we can establish that it is continuously changing shape in the air to create individual water sculptures which can be seen as part man-made and part natural.  The fact that it is continuously changing shape shows how fragile and incomplete water is and how beautiful it can look when captures at the exact moment of it essence.
This photograph is from Shinichi Maruyama 'Gardens' shoot. She has achieved these photographs by throwing paint across the composition. They have tried to represented the feeling they get from Zen gardens in their artwork. When looking at this specific series of photograph i noticed that every time the paint was throw, a different shape was formed each time to create a individual photograph which is different from any other.

This photograph is from Shinichi Maruyama 'Nude' shoot which is showing the beauty of the human body and all the motions that come with it. The figure in the image, which is formed into something similar to a sculpture, is created by combining 10,000 individual photographs of a dancer.By putting together uninterrupted individual moments, the resulting image as a whole appears to be something  different from what it really is. The fact that it is called 'Nude' this related directly to the nude shades which is seen throughout whole photograph.

This photograph is from Shinichi Maruyama 'Kusho' shoot which is achieved by mixing water and black ink together and throwing it to capture it in mid motion. Shinichi Maruyama was inspired to use ink as she remembers as a child she loved the thought of having a blank piece of paper just moments before the brush hits it. Shinichi Maruyama was always excited to see a unique outcome from the brushing.

Influence
Shinichi Maruyama influenced me in a way in which i would like try and do a water shoot and create unique shapes and photographs with each shot. I also would like to try the motions of the human body by photographing load of individual motions and then combining them to show the whole motion of the human body.

Summary
Overall i like Shinichi Maruyama work as i fell like every photograph is unique and individual and new shapes are being formed with each time. The level of creative that can be made with this photographs is one of the reason why i like Shinichi Maruyama work.

Freezing Motion image bank

This photograph is showing the freezing motion of a drink being poured from a bottle into a class. In this specific photograph we are able to easily see the drink splash up against the glass and the motion that it makes during the process of being poured into the glass.

This photograph is of a white powder which has been exploded to create a cloud of white powder, in fact it almost look like smoke. This specific photograph has been capture as the powder has exploded and a very fast shutter speed would have had to be used to achieve this as the explosion would be quick. The fact that it is on a black ground, creates a good contrast between the powder to make it seem more dense and standout in the photograph.

This photograph has captured the motion of a horse jumping over a fence during a race. Again a very fast shutter would have had to have been used as the horse would be running very fast.I feel this photograph creates some sort of tension due to it being taken just as the horse is about to jump the fence and we don't know whether the horse jumped it successfully or not.
This photograph is showing freezing motion through capturing a drink splashing out of a glass. This specific photograph allows us to see the shape in which is being created as the drink goes up into the air. This also shows how fragile and flexible this liquid is as each time, it would be able to create a unique shape.

This photograph has been created by someone rapidly waving a glow stick and then by using a fast shutter speed various motion are able to be captured to create an almost abstract looking photograph. The neon colour of the glow stick standouts well due to it contrasting the black background.

This photograph is showing a water balloon being burst. The moment at which is has been taken allows us to see the water just before it goes everywhere. This specific photograph is so unique as the human eye would not be able to see this however the camera can which is putting freezing motion to another level.
The photograph is capturing the motion when the match stick are falling from where they have been dropped from. The fact that this motion would happen so quickly shows that you may not be able to see this with the human eye which makes this photograph unique

In this photograph it has captured the moment which a drop of water hits a large amount of water. We are able to establish the individual drop of waters and the rings that creates. The lighting that is used in this photograph allows us to see the texture of the water and the individual ripples which have been created

In this photograph we can see the motion of an eye being cracked however the moment at this was captures allows us to see the individual moments of the cracked egg shell and how some parts of the egg are more damages than others.
This photograph is showing yellow paint being thrown towards the camera. The paint creates a unique shape every time it is thrown showing that not all the motion will be the same.
In this photograph a bottle of red wine is being poured into a glass. The redness of the wine creates a contrast to the white background.

These two photographs are freezing a motion of someone jumping in the air. The first photograph uses harsh lighting to create a shadow of the freezing motion. The second photograph is just simply to children jumping in the air which creates a happy atmosphere in the photograph.

In the pencil photograph you can see the broken pencil spread out as it is pushed down on to the paper, this would not be able to be seen by the human eye as it would happen so quickly.

In this photograph, snow has been blown towards the camera. Due to a fast shutter speed being used, the snow has been able to be captured when it in the air, creating a freezing motion photograph.

These two photograph show someone flicking there hair as they come our of the water. The fact that a fast shutter speed has been used means that we are able to see the water which is throw in the air. This creates almost a line of water which appears to be floating in mid air.

This photograph is showing someones hair being blown forward. The fact that hardly any of the models face can be seen allowed the attention to be focus of the freezing motion of her hair. Also due to the photograph being in black and white as well as no facial expression being shown means that no emotions or feelings are being portrayed through this photograph.

In the photograph of the milk, it has been captured as it hits a surface. The uses of a fast shutter speed has made this possible. In the second photograph a orange has been dropped water. We are able to see the bubbles and splash that it makes due to the fast shutter speed which must have been used. The fact that it has been taken on a black background allows the orange to standout from the waters.

These two photographs are of someone skateboarding. They have been captured in mid air and in one case where the person is not touching the skate board. They both have been taken in a skate which therefore makes the photographs look more realistic rather than set up.

These two photographs are freezing the motion of animals which are a dog and a bird. In the photograph of the bird you can see the photograph has been captured while the bird is in the middle of flying. The shape of it wing signify that that it is about to capture it pray below them. In the second photograph of the dog, the dog has been captured jumping over a wall. The fact that it is not blurred looks like the dog has been frozen.

This photograph is showing a bubble floating. Although it may not look like it has been frozen during it motion, everyone knows how a bubbles moves so this is why it is clear. You can also tell that it has been frozen during a motion due to the background which looks to be higher than the ground. I like the way in which the light is hitting the bubble as it allows you to see the different colour and make it more interesting

This photograph is capturing the motion of a flag. You can tell that the flag would have been moving due to it have ripples in it and it curling over at the end. Also it is made obvious as you can the sky in the composition.

This photograph has been taking during a football match to capture people during the game, scoring a goal for example. The fact that it has been taken during a real game, makes the motion look realistic rather than put on.
